Royal Yachting Association (RYA):
Performance Pathway Sailing Handbook Design
When I took on the RYA Performance Pathway Sailing Handbook project, my first step was really digging deep into what the Royal Yachting Association needed for their Youth Sailing program. Understanding their goals and who we were trying to reach was paramount; it set the whole stage for the design.
From there, I moved into concept development, sketching out the visual direction and establishing the overall style. Given it was a 60-page A5 handbook, page layout design became a massive focus. Each spread was meticulously planned, thinking about how content would flow, ensuring readability, and using grid systems to keep everything clean and consistent. My goal was always to make complex information digestible and easy to navigate for the reader.
A key part of the project involved creating clear and engaging infographic design. Since the handbook deals with performance pathways, I knew presenting data and technical details visually would be crucial. I spent a good amount of time translating that information into compelling graphics that were easy to understand at a glance. Throughout the entire process, client feedback was invaluable. We went through several rounds of revisions, refining the layouts and infographics until we hit just the right balance of visual appeal and functionality. Ultimately, it was about delivering a professional and impactful handbook that truly supported the RYA's objectives.
